As the elderly population grows, addressing overlooked issues like their mental well-being is essential, as they impact their life satisfaction and physical health. Studies show high levels of dissatisfaction that come with aging can be caused by a lack of fulfillment (Wallace, 2008).

While therapy, social networks, and medication can help, they can be costly and require effort. Our team aims to create an accessible design solution utilizing self-reflection and story-sharing to support older adults with low life fulfillment eventually.

Pop-Up Tips

We included Pop-Up Tips to describe and explain each component and how users can expect to use these functionalities and navigate the system. More hand-holding is necessary because older adults tend to be less tech-savvy and less knowledgeable about digital assets, icons, and design components. To be more informative, we designed pop-up tips for the major features on the home page.

Clickable Areas & Color Contrast

We referred to WAI guidelines for older web users to address perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust principles (W3C Web Accessibility Initiative, 2009). Manners included resizing texts, providing clearly important information at the start, ensuring sufficient color contrast, increasing clickable areas, and including the text for key actionable items.

Project Impact

As a project concept, it encourages and helps to cultivate a mindset of fulfillment through thought-provoking and self-reflection prompts. As a design framework and user population, Timeless Archives also adopts and advocates an asset-based design framework to discover and emphasize the assets the older adults’ community owns - their wisdom, experience, and willingness to share.
